A Whitby Crab

Foraged directly from the silted riverbed of the Esk in the very heart of town, historic materials shape one of North Yorkshire’s most famous sea creatures. Weathered pottery fragments build out the shell and legs, accented by segments of genuine Victorian clay pipe stems, while two polished beads of local Whitby Jet form its dark, gleaming eyes.

Set within a 20cm square box frame, The Whitby Crab brings together centuries of local trade, clay, and coastal life into a striking, compact statement piece.
